Videos should be used to:
- Provide visual interest
- Make complicated information easy to understand
- Engage users
When creating or selecting a video
Do's:
- Weigh the positives and/or negatives videos may have on users when viewing them on mobile devices (i.e. are the videos legible? Are they easy to use? Do they provide context?)
- Embed videos on inside pages through YouTube.
- Crop the homepage banner video using the image ratio defined for its use. Keep in mind there will be parts of the video not visible at some screen sizes.
- Compress and size the videos accordingly; the website does not convert videos.
- To conform to accessibility standards, the video should not auto-play.
Dont's:
- Don't use videos with large file sizes. This will increase loading speed for your site.
- Avoid using videos with a long duration within the homepage banner. This will likely increase the video file size and users might lose interest.
